boring hole in a wood pole


I need to bore a hole and then use the wood as a plug, how do i do that? The wooden pole diamter is about one inch. i just need a shallow hole hole any suggestions would be very helpful thanks

There are hole saws available --but I have never seen one small enough to bore into a 1 inch dowel.

Your best bet is to buy a wood plug (they are sold buy the bag in any big box store)

then drill a hole using a regular bit. Glue in the store bought plug--sand--done

Note---If you must match the wood in your 'post' you can make your own plugs --using a plug cutting bit--Look for the plug cutter in the same section of the store that sells the plugs.
