basement shelves

I wanted to put some shelves on my basement wall. I was thinking of just anchoring the brackets to the cement wall, but then I thought thatís a lot of drilling through the cement.

Would it make more sense to just build 2x4 stud walls and attach my brackets to that? I donít want to build any free standing shelves because then the four posts on the sides get in the way of putting stuff in/out. Iím planning on doing about 20 feet of shelving.

Thanks!

I'd rather endure some of that in order to have freestanding shelves.
No fasteners into the walls or floors.
