I am in the process of getting quotes from local Atlanta
basement contractors to redo a 850 sq ft unfinished walk out basement into a mother in law apt. Is there a book out there that will help me with info on, insulation choices, electrical hints & tips, mold & mildew resistant drywall, best waterproofing for block walls, subflooring yeah or nay? etc;
I'm sure that someone will be along to offer some suggestions.
Just a tip: I know that you will have specifics that you are interested in incorporating into the design, as well as, certain materials that you prefer to be used. That is good. The better GC's will inform you, and help you with those choices.
Example: We prefer to install rigid foam board insulation of the lower area of walls. We prefer to use mold/mildew-resistant, paperless drywall on the walls.
Just be aware, that although the work will be going on in "your" home, once the GC starts the work, it is "His/Her" job. I state this, because of the member name that you chose to use. Experienced GC's don't mind working along with home owners, but they are the ones "in charge", once the job starts. They are the ones with the experience, the know-how, and they have their own system of how they go about getting things done.
