Attic Fan

We have electric attic fans that don't seem to be working. We had someone come out to take a look but were told they couldn't work on them as they were too high up. Said it was a city ordinance that we needed to provide a permanent means of access to them. Have you heard of this? Also, if it's true, how would you recommend we provide access to them from inside the attic? Do we need to build a ladder to each one that would be permanently affixed to the flooring and rafters? If so, how would you build one? What about a platform underneath each one?

How high is your attic? What is the roof slope? How high up are the fans mounted?

Same question as Rehabber above; your situation must be something other than a normal ceiling fan installed in the basic 8 ft flat ceiling - correct?

The idea of having a ceiling fan with permanent access is something new to me - but finding out something new is rather common these days (smile).

As a rule, ceiling fan louvers are generally encased within a lightweight structure which is installed [below] from the living area, thereby providing some access to the fan blades and the motor upon removal. Not perfect by any means, but it may provide enough elbow/head room to determine if the fan is burned up or simply needs to be reset.

Just my 3 cents worth. Hope it helps.
