Attaching head rail of closet organizer
Need hints on how to screw into studs. Installing headrail of closet organizer and my drill can't get the last 1/4" of the screw flush into the wall.
Need suggestions on how to overcome this problem. |

Pehaps you hit a knot in the stud? Can you back the screw out and then drill a pilot hole? Choose a drill bit the same size or 1 smaller than the shank of the screw should do it. Let us know how it goes.

There is a little bit of unknown when screwing into a stud. You can't be sure that the screw went into the middle of the stud. It could have just caught the edge of the stud and therefore may not have much holding power. I prefer to use butterfly bolts. The holding power is strong and great for such things as attaching the head rail of the closet organizer.

Is the screw spinning or is your drill underpowered and stopping? If the screw is just spinning you have hit some metal. If the drill has stalled you need to drill the pilot hole. Rub a little soap on the screw and go for it. The soap will make insertion easier on your drill.
