Hi - Does anybody know of asbestos removal contractors near Gloucester, MA?
I'd like to know how much an asbestos removal project like this: http://www.fixr.com/n.asbestos-remov...cester.ma.html would cost.
Your best bet is to seek bids from contractors in your area, and place calls to the regional EPA office to see if they can provide you with a list of qualified contractors. I've found them very helpful when dealing with asbestos and HAZMAT issues.
Just a reminder, this is a DIY site and not the place to seek contractor recommendations or price estimates.
Although I have DIY'd asbestos removal, it was with paneling, not pipe insulation. Pipe insulation is the worst. Very friable.
And I couldn't help but notice you got two really different bids. One from someone who looks like he knows what he's doing, and another from someone who looks like he's charging you for a day or two of labor.
Do yourself a favor, and make sure any bidders provide you documentation on their license, their removal procedures, workspace isolation, filtration, spot testing, and air testing. Most importantly, make sure you know this asbestos gets disposed of properly in an asbestos landfill. The last thing you want on your mind is a pile of your asbestos sitting in the woods, or in the back of an abandoned van, with the wind blowing fibers across a playground full of kids.
Also, check with the township. In my state, you need a construction permit to remove asbestos.
