Any thoughts on hanging a foot pedal on porch swing?
I was lucky enough to inherit a porch swing that hung on my great-grandfather's home during the 1940s (probably before that too but can't verify). Only after I hung it did I realize that there's a foot pedal that will also be connected to the ceiling via chain. The pedal allows the person on the swing to propel the swing with his feet. I'm having trouble determining how much support is required where the chain will tie into the ceiling. The foot pedal will "float" in front of the swing. Because of the swinging motion when stepped upon, I can't imagine anybody being able to balance their full weight on just the foot pedal. The porch ceiling is 3/4 inch tongue and groove beadboard. Would an eye screw through the ceiling be sufficient? The black swing is mine. The white one provides an example with the foot pedal hung.
