Acetone Stain on Table Top

I accidentally spill some acetone on my varnished wooden table top. It discolored instantly. I tried rubbing it at once with a cotton. The portion became dull and damaged. It's just a small portion but is an eyesore. Is there a way to mend that? Would sanding a bit and re-varnishing cover it without doing further disaster?

Acetone is a solvent for lots of things, the varnish on your table top may be one. Touching up a spot on a table is generally not very successful, but you could give it a try. It will probably have to be stripped and refinished to make it invisible.
