4" dow board on craigslist

Hey guys. I was getting ready to purchase 2" rigid pink board from HD for $29 bucks a sheet for 4x8. I need 22 of them. Anyways, I seem a guy on Craigslist selling blue Dow boards, but 4" thick. He has 2x8 sheets and said he would sell them for $13 bucks a piece. I would need 44 of them. What should I do. Am I better off with 2" or 4". Just looking for any opinions. Thanks.

Mike

4" is more gooder than 2", if you have the room. And a bit less expensive in your case as well. Be sure the material is in decent shape.

Yeah I have the room to spare. He's sending me pictures today of it. He said they were a bit dusty. Here's what he says. " i can get you some photos tomorrow...they are reclaimed...i deal almost exclusively in reclaimed and factory seconds...the sheets are a little dusty, but overall in excellent structural condition.
you're local...i'd be happy to bring them to you...
i'll get you photos."

So we'll see. Thanks for your input.

Reclaimed from a roofer, where they have been wet and gone through freeze/thaw cycles? Be real careful of that, because they deteriorate rapidly under those conditions.

Hey j,

Yeah I looked at the pictures. They look pretty rough. I'm not gonna cheap out on this. I've decided this weekend I'm going to HD to get the 2". Thanks a lot for your advice.

Mennards have them on sale this week for 24 bucks. If you have those locally.

If this is going sub-slab, you get one shot at it, so I agree w/ spending the money. If it makes you feel better, I'll be putting about $22K under my slab.
