3 Tab Shingles

Im Going To Install Timberline 30 Shingles.can I Use Just Reguler 3 Tab Shingles For My Starter Strip And For My Ridge Hip?just Cant See Using Expensive Shingles Just To Cut Them Up Or Would It Be Better To Buy All The Same Shingles?

i guess if you cut the three tabs off of them and they match the color.

It's a common cost saving technique, but in reality when you consider the labor, you're not saving much. Sometimes the color match isn't good either, but it can be hard to tell if you only have ridge. If you have hips to cap, the color difference can be a bigger deal.

3 Tab Shingles

For starter, I use the elk starter strip, cheap, easy, fast, very functional. I've never had a problem with matching the colour and often use three tab for ridge/hip. Cut the tabs at an angle so the covered (hidden) part of the shingle is narrower than the exposed and you will have a really tight looking ridge.

They make ridge cap shingles to match your shingles.
