Ok so here the link to my 1st gate.
http://www.diychatroom.com/f2/my-gat...weaked-148984/

& I had a couple of issues with it so now we re-did it & It seems much more solid, than the last one, but now I'm looking for ideas on what to do with it?

I do have a dog & want to keep him in the yard & also keep strange dogs out of my yard..
So I'm looking for ideas...?

That looks much better---the gate is kind of tight and may bind when it swells in the rain or sags a bit---

Gates need to be 'loose on the hole'---about 3/4" narrower than the opening.

The butt joints at the corners are a rather weak type of joint for a heavy gate-----adding metal L bracket to the corners will stiffen that right up.

Looking good---gates are a challenge to build---that one looks like a winner----just add some metal Ls to the corners and it will serve you well.

As Oh Mike mentioned, L metal brackets at the corners would be great for the gate... you can find grk fasteners at box stores and they sell a heavy duty 1 1/2 screw that I've used to put the L hangers on gates/deck access doors etc...

Outside frame still built wrong.
You have left the end grain exposed.
To piece should have ran all the way across the whole length.
The end grain is where the wood is going to soak up the most water and rot, and expand more.
Without it being narrower there's no room for the door to swing.

Some finishing touches to the gate to keep the dog in & others out.
I like the natural wood theme I was able to keep.

Threw a ball this evening & it seems the dog dove right through the decrotive wood, So now, I've gotta come up with another plan?

I'm thinking Chicken wire on the back side?
