my house is clad with rough cut pine siding which is stained. One side faces south and we have to restain it every year. Any suggestions? Should I replace with cedar? Would that hold the stain any better?
Are you using a UV resistant stain? I used a UV resistant log oil (light pigmentation) many years ago, and after a couple more applications (every few years) it looks like it is a done deal. I think it was Moose Hide. Can you live w/ an opaque one? Consumer Reports recently rated stains, transparent to opaque; that may be worth a look.
If the siding itself is in good condition (no rot) then I wouldn’t replace it. The problem is more than likely the product your using for stain than the pine itself.
Have you looked at any of the Sikkens products for stain?
