wood siding

my house is clad with rough cut pine siding which is stained. One side faces south and we have to restain it every year. Any suggestions? Should I replace with cedar? Would that hold the stain any better?

Are you using a UV resistant stain? I used a UV resistant log oil (light pigmentation) many years ago, and after a couple more applications (every few years) it looks like it is a done deal. I think it was Moose Hide. Can you live w/ an opaque one? Consumer Reports recently rated stains, transparent to opaque; that may be worth a look.

If the siding itself is in good condition (no rot) then I wouldn’t replace it. The problem is more than likely the product your using for stain than the pine itself.
Have you looked at any of the Sikkens products for stain?

Thanks for the quick replies. Yes, I have used a stain with UV protection. The wood has been "over" pressure washed and is fuzzy. I will look into the Sikkens, I have heard good things about it...
