Wood Fungus, Will Timbor Solve this or ?

I have some wood fungus. The house was built in 49 and has a crawlspace. I just bought the house and it hasn't ever had a vapor barrier. I was told the vapor barrier would stop this. My plan was to wipe the fungus off with bleach, spray Timbor on the wood and lay the vapor barrier down. Any other advice or info. How bad does it look? The fungus is scattered throughout. Thanks.

Timbor should kill it. So will bleach. The problem is that neither will solve the underlying problem which is moisture, so unless you address that, the mold will be back. I have a feeling that your problem is not going to be completely solved by a vapor retarder. What you need is some ventilation in that space.

Yes, you definately need to ventilate that crawlspace. The vapor barrier is a benefit, but only with the proper ventilation. I'd suggest installing louvered vents in the rim joist at every corner, which will help promote cross-ventilation/airflow.

If your floor is not insulated, venting the crawlspace would be a concern. Either insulate it with batts, or the space would need to be heated and cooled...Not a good option in most cases.

I've used a bleach solution to deal with mold, but am not too familiar with Timbor.

Timbor is a boric acid based treatment for micro-organisms, bugs, fungi, etc. It's a low impact treatment, and pretty safe to be around. It has a cousin that is used to treat cellulose insulation to make it fire resistant.
