Windows in stairways.

What is the building code for windows in stairways?
I've got this window that is at the closest point 24" from the tread. Is this a problem code wise?
I'm replacing the window anyway but was planning on approximately the same size 24x36.
TIA

It just needs to be tempered glass.

What's the rise and run of those stairs?

Good question and I know what you're thinking. The stairs are 8 1/4 x 9". This is as compact a staircase that I can build and keep it to Massachusetts building code.
Thanks for the tempered glass suggestion. Can I coat it with a plastic something instead?
