Window sizes - wall depth

I am getting ready to order some new construction windows. The standard wall depth for windows is listed as 4-9/16 inches.

My wall is 2x4 stud + 1/2 drywall + 7/16 osb sheathing.

That comes to 4-7/16 inch.

What accounts for the other 2/16?

Minor rough in irregularities (no lumber is perfectly straight), drywall compound thickness, use of 1/2 sheathing vs 7/16 are some of the things that can cause a window opening depth to vary slightly. A window mfg has to standardize to something and standardizing to 4 9/16" allows it to fit most situations with minimal frustration to the builder/carpenter.

sometimes you may need to plane the jamb down to the drywall in spots

They are vinyl windows. I guess I could use a dado blade with a table saw and get the same effect by takeing 1/8 or whatever off the trim where it goes over the edge of the window?
