Window Sill flashing?

When installing a new construction window, do you use flashing tape for the sill or a pre bent metal flashing?

Thanks

Hi,

If it is a new construction window then it comes with a nailing flange. No ''metal'' flashing is needed.
As far as what to use over the nailing flange, we use either: Water and Ice shield membrane, flashing tape or Tyvek tape.

Gracie water and ice shield tape. We used it on the whole rough opening frame.

(FWIW: We only use it on the lower opening area and up 6" on the sides. Water travels and sits downward)

I hear ya. My Dad first found out about the product on a show called "American Builder" which I think is a local show in Comcast. They had a rep from Gracie on the show and the rep was showing off the product. He covered the whole window opening. My Dad insisted on doing it exactly as the rep was doing it. In my case, it was only 3 windows, so not a big (or expensive) deal. He likes to overkill everything.

no big deal, but the company is "Grace". You can get their flashing at Home Depot and Lowes. (I work for them ;-)

Doh! Sorry! In any event, we were real happy with the product. Especially considering the original windows had no protection on the sills, and you could clearly see they had gotten wet over the years.
