I have an Anderson vinyl shell with wood interior double hung window that I received used. I went to their site for instructions. The directions indicate that the window should be shimmed, but they do not say that I should put nails through the jamb and through shims. How are the shims supposed to stay in place? It seems the only thing holding it up is the nails I put through the fin and that seems flimsy to me.
Yes, this is my first window installation. Thanks in advance to all who help.
have a helper hold it from outside, and tack a few nails in the flange while you establish plum and level. stick in the shims and spray foam the cavity.
then you'll nail or screw the casings on. should be all you need.
if you really wanted to you could probably shoot a few finish nails through the side. just make sure you avoid the moving parts, and grab ahold of some wood.
