Default Window DP ratings

Shopping for windows for an addition. I live in coastal NC and am wondering about what DP rating to get. Any help or leads would be appreciated.

DP=Design Pressure. How much wind pressure the window will sustain before failure. Sort of a hurricane resistance rating. The higher the DP number, the more sustained wind the window will resist. Seems to me that If I was in coastal hurricane land, I'd go as high as I could.

Are you looking for impact resistance as well as specific DP?

Do you know what windzone you are in?

A simple formula for converting windspeed to DP is to divide the DP by 20 and the square the result.

For example, assuming a windspeed of 120:

120/20 = 6. Square 6 = 36. So a DP of 36 is equivalent to a windspeed of 120mph.

Keeping in mind that windows are tested for structural at 150% of DP and for water infiltration at 15% of DP, there may be other issues for you to consider.

Have you talked to your local code folks for their recommendations?
