Whitewash over Lime Mortar?
I have an old house with a stone foundation. The basement (inside) has been parged (coated) with a lime mortar. I have heard about whitewashing. Can this be used in this situation? Also, while looking into this, I have seen many different whitewashing formulas. What would be a good whitewash formula?

It's a good idea to use a limewash over lime render as it allows the walls to breathe.

Is limewash and whitewash the same thing? What is the proper formula and method to apply? Thanks.

Limewash is made from slaked lime, which is left for a few months to mature, thinned with water and pigments added if needed. You should be able to buy it ready made. It soaks into the wall and absorbs CO2 to harden up. It is also anti bacterial as well as allowing moisture in the wall to evaporate.
