Where to put Septic Tank?

We have a plot of land that is narrow (16meters) but long (100m) To enter the land you turn off a main road & drive up a steep hill to get to some flat ground, we want to site a house just behind the hill on the flat. Can we place the septic tank in front of the house? That is, dig out a bit of the hill and place it there, it would just be easier to get at for maintenance. Are there rules that state it would have to go behind the house? This info might help us with siting the house before we submit for Outline Permission. Thanks!

Where to put Septic Tank?

It's possible, that's where mine was, and that's where the new one (installed Nov 07) is now.
(My land is the same way, long and narrow, brook on one side, driveway on the other)
I am not a septic engineer, I am just saying it is possible.
Only a septic system engineer can give you an exact answer, it it involves seeing the actual plot.

Where to put Septic Tank?

Ayuh,...
Aside from whatever Codes,+ Rules there are in the area you wish to build in,....
The only real Common Sense requirements for a Septic system is,...
That it's Downhill from the house,+ As far away,+ preferably Downhill from your Well,... If Applicable....
