What type / size screws for subloor project...

What type / size / length screw would you recommend for the following:

1) 3/4" plywood subfloor to joist (along with liquid nails).
2) 3/4" underlayment to subfloor.
3) 1/4" hardiboard to underlayment.

Also is there a "chart" for recommended pilot hole / drill bit size for each size screw? That would be handy too!

Thanks in advance...y'all

The accepted standard is a fastener length three times the thickness of the material being fastened, so that the fastener penetrates the joist 2/3 of it's length. It is not necesary to drill pilot holes for these applications, as the screws will countersink themselves in the wood, and if you use screws made for tile backer board, they have little cutting nibs on the bottom of the head for this purpose. The backer board can also be nailed down with hot galvanized roofing nails.
