What size screws for furring strips on rafters

TomFl Newbie   Join Date: Mar 2010 Posts: 1	What size screws for furring strips on rafters I plan to use 3/4 furring strips screwed to my rafters. 1/2 drywall will be attached later to the rafters. What size screws should I use to fasten the furring strips to the rafters?

Richmond Newbie   Join Date: Mar 2010 Posts: 9	What size screws for furring strips on rafters It would compare to the load created by the drywall alone, so typically you would be looking at a minimum of 1 inch penetration, thus a 2 inch coarse drywall screw if you are using a 3/4 inch furring strip. Of course these screws might crack your furring strips, so predrill your holes. Also use construction adhesive.
