what should I do????


I have a house foundation put down. Yard is in good shape. 3 acres. I live in a mobile home I renovated after my divorce. I was married for 35 yrs. Will it be cheeper to build a small home on the foundation or sell mobile home and buy small doublewide,place it on foundation. I know,I will have to remove the pillers. ANY IDEAS???I live in disability and only have 250 to spend on house payments,THANKS!

Why not just keep what you have and live I that? $250.00 not going to get you much, it would not even get a desent double wide that's not going to have to be repaired.

I'm not exactly educated on the costs of placing a double-wide versus building new but I will say, even a small house will give you a better return than a mobile home. If you want to look at this as an investment then a built home will win out every day.

You and I posted about the same time; but after I thought about it I think you are right.
If you are on a fixed income you may just want to keep what you have. If your house is working then just keep it. Either set aside your money or invest it somehow. If you can't afford to build a house then why tie up your money in such a difficult asset?
I'm all for building in a pay for it manner but I am also very for no debt and downsizing. I guess it's all up to the homeowner.

I think I will look into building a smaller home (1000 sq. ft) on the foundation instead of tearing it all down. Quick fix to a larger place is D.W. but long term I can custom build the hallways,doors widths, etc. I can get a loan for 60 and have a quality home built but may not have granite counter tops

When my house burned down in 2013, I had the contractor remove existing copper lines in slab and replace with PEX. All new construction w/ 2x6 walls, 9 foot ceiling, new HVAC and exterior concrete work for $104,000. the slab was there when they started. It took 33 days from the day the framing crew showed up until we moved back in. I guess it helps that I am the local building official and all the contractors knew me and we have worked together. I had to have the neighboring inspector come over for inspection so there was no conflict of interest. By the way, I am also the Assistant fire Chief for the community. You can guess how much I got ribbed when my house burned down.

I analyzed this post a little and here are my foundings.

You shared your income situation because you didnt want us to go on a limb and tell you "of course you should build a new one". That does not mean you dont have money to invest in this project.

the other thing I assumed is the trailer you live in right now is not that great and you want a better place to live in.

I have experience with this since I was living in a trailer and bought a house that needed remodeling. Long story short: I kept living in the trailer untile the house was ready (took 3 years...). I would do all sorts of jobs mostly selling stuff on ebay and put the money aside every month. Some months I was able to put $1000 in my savings, some months $200, but it didnt matter.
As soon as I had $100 I would buy my next thing, and finish another section of the house.

Also keep in mind I got this house almost for free and the way I paid for it AGAIN (lol) was that I saved money like crazy for the pars 3 years.
When I sold my trailer and moved in the house I got exactly half of the money back, so that saved me tons on renting.

My verdict is: if you have little money triceling down to your bank each month, start building a small house. If you can do it without hiring, and if the house is built sound and well, resale value is higher than doublewide.
