What is this on my hardwood floors?! HELP!

This is under my area rug. I refinished 3 years ago so this happened fairly recently.

I tried a bleach solution and that did not work.

Any ideas what this is?

What is this on my hardwood floors?! HELP!

We have got oak floors that I stained dark oak to make them look older. My wife uses the floor polisher on them every day. If anyone spills water on the floor and you leave it too long we get staining exactly like that. It usually polishes out, but sometimes I have to sand it and restain.

Looks like water stains on an oak floor that has a worn finish. Oak turns black when wet.

Water damage for sure.

Looks like the kind to thing that happens when a carpet is shampooed in place.Couch put over the top of a wet rug.

Could this have been the cause?

Red oak and water do not mix-Like JOED said"turns it black"--MIKE--
