What comes first...chicken or egg

G'day everyone,

I'm getting close to the finishing stages of my basement buildout. I was wondering what the opinions here were on which comes first.... I will be installing an oak mantle (premade in one peice).

I will be installing ceramic tile for the floor hearth as well as around the fireplace inside the mantle.

I'm pretty sure I need to do the floor first, then mount the mantel to the wall so it sits atop the tile flooring. I'm not sure if I should do the tile on the wall before mounting the mantle though. In my mind I would mount the mantle, then put the tile inside up to the edges of the firebox.

What do y'all think on that idea?

My opinion - Mantle after floor - then tile between the Mantle and fire-box.

(As far as, chicken or egg first - I'm still trying to figure out why the chicken, crossed the road!)

I'm thinking promiscuous chicken...saw rooster...rooster wearing lots of fowl bling...chicken needed a sugar rooster.

Thanks for the thought I had a feeling that was the right order, but I have been known to be wrong many many times
