Were 1928 houses have soffits?

hehe..screwed up my title there.

Can I ask what might be a dumb question?
How can i tell if my 1928 built home has soffit vents in the attic?
Around the outside of the house there are wood beams that protrude so I cant tell from the outside. Is there a way to tell in the attic?

If you can't see the vents from the outside, you probably don't have them. Do you have any pictures?

I can post photos later today. Is that typical of these older homes?

Does not look vented. Seems like most of the older homes had the clapboards/trimboards go all the way up to the roof sheathing.

Thanks, IM planning on blowing in extra insulation this weekend in the attic so I guess i dont need to worry about blocking soffits. I know i need to have them installed, but thats not in th ebudget right now. There are vents on either end of the attic in the wall of the attic, which I know isnt enough.

If you are planning on installing soffit vents in the future i would install the foam spacers that keep the insulation away from the roof sheating before you insulate. They are cheap and that is one thing you won't have to do later and disturb all the new insulation, you can just install your soffit vents and the attic will be ready for them.

I just tried to find them on homedepots site but couldn't. If i remember right they are like 50 cents a peice and you will need one for every cavity(space inbetween the roof trusses) that you plan on insulating and that will get vented from the soffit. If you don't use these and vent the soffit it won't let cold air flow to the underside of your roof sheating and you will get condensation. If i were doing this i would just buy 100 of them and return what i don't use. In my opinion it is 100 times easier to do now then later.
