won't answer for dick who's probably out fishing again we shoot the mesh - 22cal loads - plastic washer attached to pins - never had a problem.
typically we'll fill the trench ( 1'2" wide x 12" deep ) w/#57 stone after troweling on fiber-reinforced roofing cement OR having a sub spray on 1/8" coating of asphalt/rubber emulsion onto CLEAN walls & footer ( if you have 1 ),,, we then apply a layer of delta-drain which leads down into the stone-filled trench containing 4" ads slotted/corrugated flexible pipe,,, the excavation is then backfilled w/'lifts' of compacted spoil ( the dirt you dug out ! )
backfilling w/ALL stone doesn't add much value in my mind, either,,, do't ' punch thru ' but just go UNDER it if warranted,,, 1 6" hole won't hurt UNLESS your foundation walls are falling apart then your problem's MUCH different
the interior system MAY be required IF the water table's an issue.
can't stress this part enough - BE CAREFUL - ONLY EXCAVATE IN ACCORDANCE W/APPLICABLE SAFETY STANDARDS,,, this includes any slope to the excavation & shoring to prevent cave-in's which can be deadly.
if you hear it from a guy in the apron store, be VERY suspicious the mtl/method will work,,, when it time to build something together, they won't answer phones NOR help
