Walk Up Basements

We are in the process of building a new home. The lot we purchased does not allow for a walk out basement. The building stated we could get a walk up instead.
Is a walk up basement a disaster waiting to happen.
1. How effecient are the floor drains outside the basement door?
2. And what are some of the pitfalls I should be aware of?
3. If i go with the walk up, what type of drain do i need to have installed?

thanks for all the expert answers.

When properly installed a Walk-Up will perform just fine. Just make sure the drain in the well doesnt get clogged with leaves etc.

Also make sure you have a few inches of pitch from the threshold of the basement door to the floor drain.
Some advice you receive on the internet can be worth exactly what you paid for it - be careful.
