vinyl siding question

The code requires a minimum of 6" from grade to siding. Grade is not necessarily dirt...Grade is defined as whatever is against the house. So, if your patio or driveway abuts your house, it is grade. The siding should be 6" away from it.

This code is intended to reduce rot from water splashback, but also to discourage termites and make their paths of entry easier to locate. So, the 6" requirement is there whether it is vinyl, stucco, or wood.

vinyl siding question

thank you kctermite! now i just need to figure out what to PUT in that 6" to maybe 12" space.... it is concrete 2 to 3 feet from the walls all around the perimeter, so whatever i put on it will touch concrete only. i need cheap but strong/safe/easy to install.... any suggestions or pics of what others have done with a 'polebarn' style home with crawlspace would be a big help. tnkx again!

Yeah, I was starting to think that house drove you crazy and they had you locked safely away in an asylum! Post some pics for us once that siding's up.

The termites/bugs can go behind the flashing just like any other cladding.
