Ideally, yes. But since you have to have the bottom edges of the lookouts where they MUST be (level) in order for them to be in the correct position to mount the soffit, that interior bottom edge corner needs to be angle cut off the end of the lookout so as not to push into the siding. Don't worry, you'll still have a couple of inches to nail to at the top.

If you feel the need for more nailing area, use 2x6's... all you are looking for is to have that bottom edge at the height it needs to be.

I dont have one. It is just an end gable wall with no soffit so basically the fascia will be flush with the siding.
