Vinyl Siding just blew off the side.....

About a year ago we had the house dormered and the entire 2nd floor was sided. It's windy tonight and we just heard some loud scraping sound. Went outside and there are a few sheets floating around.

How normal is this ? I've seen vinyl siding fly off in hurricanes on the news, but never in my area.

It's not normal at all and shouldn't happen, call the contractor.

Shrinkage

The lumber from the second floor addition dried out and shrunk causing probably the siding betwen first and second floor to comeout of the locking channel and with the wind we had last night, well just look outside.

Thanks for the responses guyz.
I remember reading about lumber drying out, etc. and how it affects different parts of the house. I.E., sometimes nails come back through sheetrock after a while.
Hopefully they'll fix it without question. This happened last night and I know they don't work on Sundays, so another day of hearing this flapping around at night.
Thanks Again,
Scott

It depends on what type of sheathing was installed and also did they nail the siding at every stud or did they nail it where ever they felt like? Vinyl siding is famous for doing this if not installed properly.

Well, I spent some time Sunday freezing my butt off with a ladder, some nails and duct tape to try to secure the pieces that were still attached but flapping. It seems like some of the nails were just going into the plywood and not the studs.
Anyways, I called them back an they're coming to address it.
