Vinyl siding installation question

Should the siding be butted tight to the corners and J-trim around windows & doors or should there be a 1/4" or more gap? This is assuming there are more than one board per course, allowing for expansion and contraction.
I ask because I have had two opinions ... today. Also consider that I am in a cool (cold) climate and am installing around the freezing temperature.
Advise always welcome.
Regards, Mark

Vinyl siding installation question

Leave a gap between the siding panels into the corner-posts, and the "J"
channel - 1/4 inch gap.
It's cold - store the siding in a cold area (garage) - not a heated area -
for awhile (1 or 2 weeks) before you're going to install it.
"Acclimation".
Store it flat.
Watch you're nailing.

New construction - remodel??

Vinyl siding installation question

Amount of Gap depends on the make and temperature at which it is being installed. The manufacturer website should have instructions.

Vinyl siding installation question

vinyl doesnt really need much acclamitization time, it will adapt pretty quicky as its a very thin product..
regarding installing in the cold, your best bet is to gap is more now that its fully contracted, it will only expand as it warms up. i typically keep the siding back 1/4 - 3/8 from corners and inside of j channel or j'd out windows and doors this time of year. in the summer you can install it tighter to allow for contraction come wintertime
