Vinyl siding expansion

I am using Royal Woodland vinyl siding. It is a 46 mil, 16' 4" long.

On their website, under the physical property of coefficient of linear expansion, it states:

Standard Method: ASTM E-831
Unit of Measure: 105 in/in/°F
Result: 3.07

Can someone interpret that for me ?

What I would like to know is how much a full length panel (16' 4") would expand in length going from 0 degrees to 100 degrees.

Thanks,
Arky

Vinyl siding expansion

cant say for a 16' piece as all ive ever worked with is 12' lengths. if im installing vinyl in the winter i use the nailing flange as a gauge as to how much space to give it... first peice goes on then the peice next to it... in cold temperatures i will leave about a 1" space between the ends of the nailing flanges so when the summer comes it can expand... then if installing in the summer on a really hot day i will install them closer together to allow for it to shrink and still cover in the winter...

this might be kinda of tricky to understand without showing pictures of exacty what im describing... i am installing a large amount of siding right now unfortunately its not vinyl so i cant take any photos to clarify my methods

Vinyl siding expansion

Length is usually not an issue, since the manufacturer has designed overlaps into the material. I would be more concerned about vertical expansion, depending on when the siding is installed.
