I have Alum siding and going to have it replaced with vinyl. UNder the old siding is the original shakes and then tongue & groove planking. Should the original shakes be removed & then the new siding installed or leave it on. What are the advantages or disadvantages of removing as opposed to keeping it.
Why are you removing the aluminum?
Aluminum siding adds more value to a house.
Will you be putting up house wrap?
Will you have foam insulation under the vinyl?
The alum siding is all dented and falling off. The installer said he would remove the alum and add a insulating board then vinyl. I was just wondering if I should have them remove the orig shakes down to the plywood.
