Vinyl replacement windows.

Hello, I want to replace the old aluminum windows on the front of my house with vinyl replacement windows. I'm looking at the type where you just slide in the new window into the old frame since my house is stucco'd. I've been looking on-line and see a lot of mixed info on different windows and manufacturers. What I'd like to know, is there any window installers out there who can tell me which are the better vinyl windows? In other, if you were going to install vinyl windows in your own home what brand would you put in? I've read some negative reviews of pella and anderson but others say they are the best. On the other hand I've read good things about Extreme energy 3000 budget, and Schuco, etc. thank you

Not a pro, I installed Anderson in my house. We've been very pleased.

Hi joefromcal,
I also live in So Cal., I have Milgaurd Tuscany installed in my house. The reviews on the web have been very good. I went thru COSTCO with one of the sub contracters they use and the price was right as well as the knowlege of the installation company. You may be able to go direct to the sub contracter, they are a large company in Santa Ana. I don't know how much I can post about them on the fourm.

Thanks for the response. Can you tell me what particular Anderson window type you had installed, for example, the Craftsman, 400 series, etc. and was it for doble pained with double or triple weather stripping? Thank you, Joe

all the major manufactures now have insert or pocket type units made from all types of materials and cladding, you don't necessarily have to use a vinyl unit
