vapor barrier patching?

When doing insulation with a paper vapor barrier do I need to worry about patching cuts and tears in the vapor barrier with tape. If so what type of tape should I use?
thanks

The first answer is it depends where you live and if it's in attic or walls. It varies by region and temp zone.

Do you have a full or partial crawl space? You should keep your vapor barrier intact - you can use what is commonly called builders tape or sheathing tape - Lowes or HD....

Ok Ron I saw as I was signing off. It's like the other guy Vermont1 who's to know?.... I'M NOT REALLY A CHEMIST....Maybe he just want's to live in Oregon some day.
ODIY... The point I was making is some guys on here go nuts about even having a vapour barrier in the ceiling and I have come to learn it is a regional thing. Depending on your area's humidity, inland or not, etc the answer will be different. Where I live 6 mil poly is code for walls and ceiling....
