Tyvek
I'm having my house resided. The house is 12 years old, and the aluminum siding was damaged by hail. No house wrap was originally installed. I asked my contractor to use Tyvek under the Hardie Plank cement fiberboard siding. He said that's what he uses. He's siding another house next to mine, and he's using PrimeWrap in some spots and BuildersChoice wrap in other spots. I asked him to confirm he would be using Tyvek on my house and why he wasn't using it on my neighbor's house. He said he is using Tyvek, and that it just has a different label on it. Are all house wraps equal? Is Dupont actually producing house wrap and putting different labels on it? Should I insist he use Tyvek?
Thanks, Rick |

Rick,
I can't comment on exactly what the builder you are planning on going with is using, but if your interested in some of the various properties of the housewraps that are out there, take a look at a recent article that was published in Fine Homebuilding. You can find it by going to www.taunton.com/finehomebuilding and searching for "housewrap". The article was written by Fernando Pages Ruiz. It's actually quite informative. |
