Types Of Garage Archways

Hi there, this is my first post, here goes.
I've built a garage with a 9' wide door and the plans call for an arched brick front. My dillema is this, do I keep the doorway square and add a couple of 2x8's on top and that are cut with an arch shape or do I make the arch in the doorway with plywood cut to an arch and add an angle? I'm not too crazy about having a couple of 2x8's on top of the door covered with aluminun flashing. Any ideas? I've already started cutting the plywood with a trammel just to see how hard it would be.
Thanks for your input and any ideas that you come up with.

Assuming the garage is single storey; js the brick arch to be a true, structural arch (ie self-supporting) or is it going to be just decorative, with a permanent arch-shaped form underneath?
I can't follow the point about the al. flashing, and also the 'angle'.
Pic. would help.

please check out this link, especially Figure #4 http://faculty.arch.tamu.edu/anichol...1brickarch.pdf

you can use a curved steel arch to support the brick

hope this helps .....

Good luck!
