Tying in Torch down Roofing to EPDM

I am having a torch down roof installed on one of my flat sections of roof tying into EPDM. Can't afford to replace all at this time with torch down. Can this be done and what precautions should be taken when tying into the rubber? I don't want a smoldering fire situation. Input greatly appreciated. Thank you.
