Two Story Deck Question
I want to build…or rather, have built by professionals…a two-story deck on the back of my house in Chicago. I want a very simple “off-the-shelf” rectangular wooden deck that's common here. The city requires architectural stamped drawings for issuance of a building permit. My question is this…does anyone have such a deck?…do you have your architectural drawings?...would you consider providing me with a copy (for a small fee)?

I would like to take an existing plan…hopefully nearly identical…and make the necessary modifications to suit my project. I have engineering and drafting background so I can handle the plan adjustments myself. I would however, like to avoid the cost of having an architect render the drawings for me. I would then of course have the modified plan stamped by an architect.

Please contact me if you can provide some relevant drawings.

That's a pretty outlandish concept: buying an old set of architectural drawings, you sketching some modifications, and then finding another architect to seal that sketched up set. I wouldn't do that in a million years. And I would sue the professional who put their seal on top of my mine in a heartbeat. I've done it before, because that's my intellectual property. A set of sealed drawings are meant for that client's property, and no other.

I thought we were all moving away from the Napster-esque, pirated, devil may care, break the law when it suits us mentality.

What a crazy post. Does the average person really think that this a legitimate option? Insanity. Don't they teach ethics in school anymore?

Go to a lumber company
See if they will design the plans for you if you buy the wood from them
My lumber company sent my addition plans out for engineer stamp & sized the beams for me
