I want to build a triangular cedar Pergola and I'm having a hard time finding a plan. Does anyone know where I could obtain one? If not, I plan on designing one myself. There are a few question I've run into.
First, The Pergola is going to be a right triangle. What is the maximum length I can span a 2x8 or 2x10 as the hypotenuse side of the Pergola. I would like there to be only 3 6x6 posts, but if I have to add additional posts to support the main cross beam, I will, but I'd rather not if possible.
Second, I'd like to sandwich the posts between two beams for strength. Is that possible? I'm trying to figure outhow I would do that with the post holding the right angle. (if that makes senses)
Third, if anyone has any close up pictures of trianglular pergolas, I'd love to see them. I've only been able to find a few on google.
