Trex Post Height

Hi, may be a dumb question, but can anyone tell me the necessary height for a deck post when using trex transcend railing system...my posts are 39" high, but when I put the 2x6 decking on, I'm going to lose ~1.5" and I'm now wondering if I cut them too short.

Thanks,

jjw

Codes for rails generally run from 36"-42". Check to see what your codes are.

Ahh...I'm asking the question wrong. 36" is the code. But...I was wondering if I cut my posts too short to use with the Trex post sleeves and rails.

It said 39" posts, but when I add the decking I'm going to lose 1.5" so they'll be approximately 37.5" posts...not sure if there is sufficient height to put the railings and post caps in place.

Your 39” post are setting you up for a 39” finished rail. That’s fine if 39 is what you want.

Personally I wouldn’t cut all my post to length except maybe the corners. Run your post long and string line and cut them off when it’s time to run the cap.

Little discrepancies in the framing and pre-cut post can lead to a roller coaster rail.
