Trex Deck material

I am in the process of enclosing our Veranda which has Trex as the flooring material. My Plan is to install a window-wall which will enclose the Veranda, insulate the flooring and ceiling above.

Question: Is there any issue I need to deal with regarding the Trex? I have heard that the Trex material must have air flow? - I plan on placing cement board over the Trex and tiling the floor - the room will be weather tight and the below floor joist will be insulated and sealed as well.

Thanks,

Budman II

It will mold. It has to have air flow around it. It is made with possibly 50% (secret) wood fibers that can mold.

Be safe, Gary

Thanks for the reply. Help me here - If the Trex is completely sealed so no water can get to it how can it mold? It is my understanding that mold is a result of water soaked material.

Moisture will rise from below unless the crawlspace is conditioned. "Floor joist is insulated"---- says not conditioned or closed. Unless you spray foam or rigid foam board and seal. http://www2.iccsafe.org/cs/committee...E_06_64_07.pdf

Gary - The floor joist are 10 feet off the ground and will be insulated with batt insulation and then sealed with foil faced insulation board. Then beadboard is to be place as a finish. The floor system will be completely weather tight - top and bottom.

Thanks,

Bud
