What is the normal measurement for a brick ledge that is formed into the house slab? 4" , 5-1/2" or ???

Minimum according to IRC code is support for 2/3rds of the brick plus a 1 inch airspace behind. Majority of what I've read recommends no less than 3/4ths support for the brick.

4 + 2 is optimal, 4 + 1 is standard, and the code is, as usual, the minimum.
