Tiling a porch over a painted concrete surface
I wish to lay tiles on my front porch. The concrete was painted, over 10 years ago. The paint was flaking in some areas and there was bare concrete in others, and I was told to scrape all loose paint off; then, sand the entire area (including steps) with very coarse sandpaper. I have done this. I have then painted the entire area with Bondcrete- first layer Boncrete 1 part to 4 parts water, second layer, 4 parts Bondcrete to 1 part water. My question is, is this enough prep work BEFORE I try to lay the tiles?
OR, should I sandblast or try to remove the old paint completely with paint remover?
depending on your geography's weather, exterior tile may be an exercise in futility,,, even here in ga, its not recommended as permanent 'cause of freeze/thaw,,, there isn't any paint that'll adhere permanently to conc however there are coatings that last.
whoever gave you that advice was probably a painter :whistling2: you don't have to s/b as a grinder & diamond turbo wheel're the best tool choice for prep.
if 10 yrs is sufficient for you, tho, paint it.
