Tiger Foam On Duct Work

Hi all,

I am considering using Tiger Foam on our central air heating duct work to keep more heat in the forced air. The basement is unfinished with walk out and the exterior walls have R23 Roxoul insulation. The basement will get colder once the duct work is insulated.

Are there any risks to cutting down indirect heating of the basement through exposed duct work. Could the basement become too cold for water pipes etc. I am located near Toronto Ont so the winters temps do drop to -25 Celcius or -10 Fahrenheit.

Thanks,
Art

You should have enough duct openings in your basement to keep it warm enough to prevent the pipes from freezing. I'm sure that having the warm ducts helps, but probably not that much.

To avoid the issue at my house I installed a couple of operable damper duct openings. I can open them in the winter to warm the basement and close them in the spring, summer, and fall.
