tieing in rafter and ceiling joist


closing in my patio the rafters are 2x6 and should be at least 2x8,i'm putting in 2x6 ceiling joist right under the rafters. what is the best way to tie the two together to give me the best rafter joist strenght.

Do you mean you are "stacking" joists directly underneath your rafters (most likely impossible, depending on the depth of your "birdsmouth") as opposed to offsetting them .75" and resting them on the top plate (standard practice)
