Thinstone on sheathing 3/4" off of the foundation

Hi I have asked a few people but no one can give me a straight answer...

I am doing about 125 sq ft of thin stone on the front of my house. There is about 2.5' of foundation around the house. I plan on going from the sheathing down to the base of the foundation. The issue I am trying to figure out is this...

The sheathing goes over the foundation about 3/4" so if i just put up the metal lathe all the way down the stone will look to "cave" into the foundation.

I was told to try to add more mortar to level it out to the sheathing, but that seems like it would be a lot of mortar between the foundation/wire mesh to the stone itself.. about 1.25" (3/4 to even to the sheathing then 1/2 for the scratch coat)

Any help would be great full, here is the type of stone I am using..

You would nail or screw furring strips to the foundation to level the surface. The wire lath would be attached to the the wood strips. Apply a scratch coat to the lath and apply the stone to that. Heavy stone will require a base to keep it in place.

I think I may know exactly what you're asking, but a picture would sure help remove doubt......................

Im not really sure nailing furring strips into the foundation would hold enough? wouldn't ramset type of anchor screw work a lot better?, a little more time consuming though
