Tempered glass needed or not?

Hi guys!

I'm working on the new entryway which will be a 9X5 foyer with 2 doors. The side windows on the outside door are tempered glass, but the wife wants me to put side windows on each side of the inside door as well. I have some very nice decorated panes of 12" X 42" 'normal' glass I wanted to use, but is there a regulation/code on this? Height the glass needs to be from floor perhaps? I'd hate to not be able to use this glass since I've already cut and planed out the rough walnut frame I want to wrap the glass in.

Thanks!

DM

In my neck of the woods any glass 18 or lower from the floor and any glass 24 from a door must be tempered. I've heard different numbers in different areas so you better call the City/County and ask.

Do you mean within 24" of a door?

Yes he did, and the same applies here as well.
