tape drywall to plywood

New to the site--looks great. I'm putting in a "side mount pullout rack" Making an opening in the wall( which is drywalled) I want to put good 1 side plywood on the inside of the "cupboard" Can the corner where the drywall and plywood meet be taped as if it were drywall to drywall? Thanks for any help!!

You can do it, but the joint will probably crack.

Drywall butting up to wood usually requires a trim piece (cove molding or something similar) to hide the gap.

Wood shrinks, wood expands...mud doesn't like that

Yeah, the movement of sliding the rack in and out over time will likely crack the joint. If you decide to try it, I'd recommend using "brown bag" DuraBond for the tape and bed coats....
